Project Name:

Community engagement of women of Portland Bight in public awareness sessions exploring between gender and climate change and adaptation ideas

Goals:

  1. To raise awareness on climate change and gender issues and encourage gender sensitive climate action
  2. To collect baseline data on climate adaptation options and encourage the incorporation of gender considerations into community adaptation

Activities:

1.Baseline data collection

  1. Administration of a survey instrument for 60 persons
  2. Key informant interviews (about 10 -15)
  3. A focus group

2.Workshop for 30 women

  1. This 4-day workshop provided the opportunity for community engagement to raise awareness about gender, climate change and adaptation actions as well as advocacy sensitization.
  2. A gender expert led the session supported by representatives from relevant government agencies – Climate Studies group at UWI and Gender Unit
  3. Presentation from partner organizations or donors on potential support for climate smart activities – Florizel Thomposn, bee farmer from Mitchell Town, GEF Smal Grants Programme, National Conservation & Development Trust Fund & Rural Agricultural Development Agency
