Project Summary

The Combating Wildlife Trafficking Program is a regional project to address the illegal collection and the international and national poaching and trafficking of endemic and globally threatened species from the Caribbean.

Specific objectives are:

  1. Enhance monitoring and protection by local law enforcement;
  2. Increase the capacity of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to mitigate poaching and trafficking;
  3. Increase regional collaboration and policy harmonization; and
  4. Understand and influence consumers’ attitudes and behaviours towards reducing demand.

As part of Objective 1, a subgrant has been awarded to the Caribbean Coastal Area Management Foundation (C-CAM) to protect and monitor the Portland Bight Protected Area, which is home to Jamaican Coney, Jamaican Crocodile, Jamaican Iguanas and other species at risk from national and international poaching and trafficking
