About the Discovery Center
The PBDC enhances environmentally sustainable development of the PBPA by providing first class educational and recreational experiences and facilitating conservation management.
From the Center, C-Cam is able to deliver educational experiences for school groups from basic school to university, including but not limited to general interest field trips, fun days and ecology coursework; degree and post-graduate courses; and special interest courses.
Our goals with the Center is to increase awareness of conservation, the environment and climate change through enjoyable experiential learning for all ages including local community members, schools and the general public.
The Center offers the following experiences for visitors:
- Mangrove Boardwalk: A wooden boardwalk raised 2 feet above the water. It has wooden hand rails. Interpretive signs and installations include labels will on plants, nest boxes, feeding tables and other items located along the board walk. There is a wildlife hide at the end by the pool.
- Wildlife Hide: A wooden structure with broad windows for viewing wildlife in the mangroves along Salt River.
- Dipping Pond: A pond with low sides and a perimeter shelf where up to 15 children at a time can use hand nets to collect critters. Supporting infrastructure includes a shaded area with benches to be used for interpretation, and a place for hand washing.
- Turtle Pond: A shallow pond where C-CAM manages a small number of Jamaican Slider turtles.
Visits to the Discovery Center are by appointment only. For more information, please contact us.
